Watching things grow...

10/9/11 - First signs of life!! We've had a lot of rain this last week and I was worried it washed away all of my little seeds of carrots and lettuce. I checked on them today and we have green! I'm pretty excited.
My son was very excited to see these babies. He's very interested in watching the garden grow. It's going to be very crowded, so I'll have to do some thinning soon.

10/9/11- We placed the planter box in it's new home today. I think it's going to be very happy there... I filled it up with compost and didn't have enough! I am about 1/2 a wheelbarrow short. Have to visit the dirt guy for a few buckets of dirt. This doesn't look very big, but it's 8' long and is going to hold quite a lot. I'm pretty excited to get some things planted.

10/7/11 - I'm excited that I finished my expansion! Well, almost. I built another planter box and had it not rained, I would have it in the yard already. It's much larger than the others and I'll really be able to plant quite a few things in this one. Can't wait to get it in, filled with dirt and planted. Woohoo!
I built this one out of 2x6 redwood and used redwood fence boards for the floor. They are spaced to allow for drainage. This is 8' long. Can't wait to put it in the yard and fill it up!

9/29/11 - Well, the garden is in. It's small but mighty! It's the first time I'm using these boxes and I'm sure I've overplanted them. Will probably be doing some thinning when things start getting bigger. Fingers crossed...

| Here's my little garden. I have found another place I can build another box for, so this is going to expand. Yay! |

9/25/11 - Although I grew up with a HUGE garden as my parents were avid gardeners, I really haven't given it much of a chance. I've decided that it's time for me to start my own. So, I built a couple of long and narrow raised beds, filled them with compost and off I go! I'll keep you updated on the process of what's working and what's not. I'm in Northern California with horrible clay soil, cold temps in the winter which kills all the citrus and scorching hot summers, which again kills everything. We'll see how this goes...

| My new planter boxes. A garden wasn't in our landscape plan, so I've had to be creative with finding room. |
